How much do brits spend on BBQs?

Summer is just around the corner, and although the Great British weather is as unpredictable as ever, us Brits just love firing up the barbecue.

We all know that succulent sausages, mouth-watering steaks and crunchy corn-on-the-cobs are all part of a good old British alfresco session, but did you know that the average barbecue only gets used four times a year? This may come as a surprise to most of us as the delicious smell of barbecued meat seems to be everywhere throughout the warmer months.

How Much do Brits Spend on Barbecuing a Year?

We asked some UK adults how much they would be prepared to spend, and we were surprised when 41% said that they would spend up to £300 when upgrading their barbecue. Interestingly, 46% of people admitted to investing the exact same amount of money into their kitchen cookers.

We love a good barbecue here at Rattan Direct, and it looks like the residents of London do to, as it’s the capital’s residents that are forking out the most money for their BBQs. They’re closely followed by people from Scotland and Ireland.

But what is it about barbecues that us Brits love so much? Our spokesperson Robert seems to think it’s to do with our ever-changing weather:

“Us Brits are known for our love of BBQs, raining or not, when the weekend hits, our gardens turn into a party space for family and friends. However, it’s interesting to see how much we’re actually willing to pay for our BBQs”

Barbecuing in a Short and Unpredictable Summer

Summer in the UK is known across the globe for being rather short and unpredictable, and that’s why we’re renowned for squeezing every last second out of it. BBQs have long been a staple of the summer months and with the days being nice and long now there’s no excuse not to fire up that BBQ and dine alfresco style after work. As always with our summer, we have no idea how long it’s going to last!

A good BBQ needs good fizz, take a look at our champagne and prosecco guide to make sure you’re serving the good stuff.

So grab your apron, your friends and, of course, your rattan furniture and get barbecuing. We will be - even if we do get rained on half way through!
